The Department has completed archeological surveys at the proposed Cochrane Hill and Winona alternative sites.   A full report of the archeological findings will be presented at the December 5th Commission Meeting.   Due diligence investigations including an appraisal, a drainage study, well studies, and an archeological survey have been completed at the 160-acre Foster Ranch deeded property.  The Department has also coordinated a Commission site visit to the Cochrane Hill and Foster Ranch sites.  The Department has also coordinated with the Coconino National Forest regarding the proposed Willard Springs Land Exchange and pending decisions on the Agreement To Initiate the National Environmental Policy Act process.

4-28-06
Two Community Information Meetings were held by the AFGD to discuss shooting facilities in general terms. The meetings were held in Munds Park and and Don Hoel's Cabins in Oak Creek Canyon on Tuesday, April 25, and Thursday, April 27, respectively. The meeting discussed and answer questions regarding day-to-day functions, typical programs offered, and types of activities provided at shooting facilities. Examples of shooting Range components from the Ben Avery Shooting Range were discussed as well. The study team appreciates all those who attended and their valuable input. A summary of the meetings are available on the Documents page of this site.

The second Open House for the Northern Arizona Shooting Range was held on April 15, 2006. At the Open House the preferred location for the Shooting Range was presented to the public. On Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, a project update was presented at the Arizona Game & Fish Commission meeting. Included in the update was a review of the comments received at the Oct. 29, 2005 Open House, as identified in the the Open House Summary Report. The report is available in the documents page of this Web site.

Also presented was a Preliminary Field Review Report that documented site visits to potential Range locations. These locations were identified by user groups and participants at the Oct. 29 Open House. Included in this report were site photographs and a brief summary of each site that described access, terrain, and potential advantages and disadvantages. The Preliminary Field Review Report is available in the documents page of this Web site.
